About the role

We are recruiting a Senior Project Designer for a national manufacturer of light gauge steel frame and SFS systems, part of a global building products group, at its Birmingham head office. You will join a close-knit, multidisciplinary design team working across load-bearing light steel frame and SFS projects, from design through to manufacture and production.

What you’ll be doing

• Run several design projects at once, from concept through to production
• Produce 3D models, panel drawings and production issue packs, ideally in Tekla
• Coordinate external designers for lifts, stairs, balconies and masonry support
• Support architects, engineers, contractors, installers and the factory on technical issues
• Work with estimating and engineering on budgets and cost-effective design
• Mentor junior designers and check the quality of the team’s drawings

What we’re looking for

• Strong technical design experience in light gauge steel frame or SFS, ideally with a manufacturer
• Tekla Structures preferred. Revit considered if your light steel frame knowledge is strong
• A sound understanding of building physics and how load-bearing frame systems are assembled
• Ability to work independently on live projects from day one
• Right to work in the UK

Nice to have

• An HNC or diploma in a construction-related subject
• Knowledge of hot rolled, concrete and glazing interfaces
